PREFACE
Down through the ages the questions have been asked: Where did we come from? What are we doing here? Where are we headed?
The world has reached six billion in population and most are still asking these questions. Millions upon millions have tried to find the answers in the religions of the world; others have so darkened their minds, they believe there is no God or any purpose to life and it all just happened by chance. Still others believe there is a Creator, but He has played a cruel hoax on man. He doesn’t care anything about the world He created and has left it to die in its misery. They reason, “Let us eat, drink, and be merry. What’s the difference? For tomorrow we die, and that ends everything!” (1 Cor. 15:32, TLB.)
Were We Once Angels answers the questions at the top of the page and the most important question anyone could ever ask: How can I find eternal life? It also gives a simple explanation of the Trinity and explains another great mystery of the Bible: Predestination. It starts with the very beginning of all things and ends with the New Heaven and New Earth—the time when God will have finished His plan and there is no more death or sorrow.
It is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. (1 Cor. 2:9-10.)
The Return of Christ
The Lord said we could not know the “day or hour” of His return. But He also said that a certain generation would see some signs to indicate that it was near. One of the most important signs is the regathering of the Jews to their ancient homeland and forming a nation in 1948. Another sign is their conquering of East Jerusalem and the Old Temple site in 1967. Another sign is the plan of making ancient Judea and Samaria, the West Bank, an Arab state with East Jerusalem as the capital.
Another very important sign will be a future false peace in the Middle East. The Bible indicates that when Israel finally says “peace and safety,” then “sudden destruction” will surely come. This time of trouble will be so bad that only the return of Christ will save humanity.
Concerning His return, Billy Graham says, “Experience tells us that greed, lust, and selfishness will continue to rear their ugly heads. The Bible teaches that a time of peace will eventually come, but the peace will be imposed by the Antichrist—by the coming of a world dictator. It will last but a short time, and then the world will enter a period in which the judgments of God fall upon the human race. This period will culminate in Armageddon, in a confrontation between the forces of good and the forces of evil which could exterminate the human race. But God, the Bible teaches, will intervene to conclude our age.”1
